Make room in your schedule for any interruptions. If you make one appointment right after another, and not account for delays caused by traffic or other interruptions, your whole day may be thrown off. You can keep on track when you prepare for certain interruptions.

Do not be afraid to neglect any tasks that are not essential. If you have a busy schedule, you can eliminate anything that does not have a deadline or something that could be done by someone else. Allow people to help you with the tasks that you do not have to handle personally.

Do not rush through your day. If you rush through things and make mistakes, it is going to take you far longer to fix those mistakes than it would have for you to do it right the first time. Slow and careful work will be more productive than rushed, sloppy work.

At work, make sure you’re not constantly picking up the slack for others! Delegate some of your load and manage time better.

Try to avoid answering the phone or e-mails just because they ring or appear. If you can, try disabling or disconnecting instant messaging. You don’t need to instantly give people attention unless it’s essential to the instant human response aspect of your business. You should try scheduling time for returning calls and answering emails.

One of the most fundamental steps to better management of time is using a calender. The type of calender you use is totally up to you. Some people like to write activities on paper, so they buy some type of paper calendar. Others may choose to keep their calendar of events on their mobile phone or other portable devices.

Make it a habit to hold on communication until you’re done the things that take the most focus. Emails and telephone calls are huge interrupting forces when it comes to time management. You may think that you need to answer every email as it comes in, but really you don’t! Hold them until you’re done your current work. It’s a much better use of time.
